A Vegetation Oasis in the Mimerdalen, Billefiord (Central Spitsbergen)
Zusammenfassung
Die Auswertung floristischer, pflanzensoziologischer und synsoziologischer Bestandsaufnahmen eines südexponierten, wärmebegünstigten Hanges im unteren Talabschnitt des Mimerdalen ließ eine
vegetationsgeographische Sonderstellung dieses Gebietes im Vergleich zu seiner näheren und weiteren Umgebung deutlich werden.
Hiervon zeugt allein die außerordentlich hohe Artenzahl der Gefäßpflanzen, denn auf der untersuchten Fläche von 35 ha konnten 93 verschiedene Arten registriert werden. Darunter finden sich auch
relativ viele seltene Arten wie z.B. Vaccinium uliginosum ssp. microphyllum, Arabis alpina und Empetrum nigrum ssp. hermaphroditum. Neben der Zusammensetzung der Flora
belegt auch die flächenmäßige Dominanz der Zwergstrauch-Gesellschaften (Dryas-Assoziationen, Empetrum- und Vaccinium-Gesellschaft) die Gunststellung des
Untersuchungsgebietes, weshalb es gerechtfertigt ist, von einer Vegetationsoase zu sprechen.
Summary
The compilation of floristic, plantsociological and synsociological analyses of a south-exposed slope favoured by warm summer temperatures in the lower part of the valley of Mimerdalen showed the
exceptional position of this area compared with its closer and farther surrounding.
This proves the particular high number of the vascular plants since 93 different species could be registered in the studied area of 35 ha. Among them there are also many rare species e.g.
Vaccinium uliginosum ssp. microphyllum, Arabis alpina and Empetrum nigrum ssp. hermaphroditum. Apart from the composition of the flora the spatial dominance of the
dwarf-shrub communities (Dryas-associations, Empetrum- and Vaccinium-association) also proves the favoured position of the study area. Therefore, it can be justified
talking of a vegetation oasis.
